Seversky skewers Christianity

I see they’re back to the Problem of Evil.  Again.

It’ll all be Adam (and Eve’s) fault for trying a fruit diet.  Again.

There’ll be no satisfactory explanation of why an omniscient being didn’t see it coming a mile off and why an omnipotent being didn’t do anything about it.  Again.

There’ll be no moral justification for punishing not just the original offenders but all their descendants in perpetuity.  Again.

There’ll be no explanation of why God lied to Adam and no discussion of what that implies for everything else God is reported to have said.  Again.

Finally, and much more fundamentally, there will be no discussion of why a necessary being, such as the Christian God must be to be an Uncaused First Cause, would ever create a Universe and populate it with beings with whom he wants to enter into a loving relationship. Again.

A beautiful takedown of Christian theology and apologetics by Seversky @ atbc

“The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.”

So said A.W. Tozer and blogged by ajrosl. Here’s some verses for them to think about…

“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet.” (1 Timothy 2:12)

“Go, now, attack Amalek, and deal with him and all that he has under the ban. Do not spare him, but kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and asses.” (1 Samuel 15:3)

“You shall not let a sorceress live.” (Exodus 22:18)

“Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.” (Psalm 137:9)

“When the men would not listen to his host, the husband seized his concubine and thrust her outside to them. They had relations with her and abused her all night until the following dawn, when they let her go. Then at daybreak the woman came and collapsed at the entrance of the house in which her husband was a guest, where she lay until the morning. When her husband rose that day and opened the door of the house to start out again on his journey, there lay the woman, his concubine, at the entrance of the house with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, ‘Come, let us go’; but there was no answer. So the man placed her on an ass and started out again for home.” (Judges 19:25-28)

“And the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity.” (Romans 1:27)

“Jephthah made a vow to the Lord. ‘If you deliver the Ammonites into my power,’ he said, ‘whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites shall belong to the Lord. I shall offer him up as a holocaust.’ … When Jephthah returned to his house in Mizpah, it was his daughter who came forth, playing the tambourines and dancing. She was an only child: he had neither son nor daughter besides her. When he saw her, he rent his garments and said, ‘Alas, daughter, you have struck me down and brought calamity upon me. For I have made a vow to the Lord and I cannot retract’.” (Judges 11:30-1, 34-5)

“Then God said: ‘Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust on a height that I will point out to you’.”(Genesis 22:2)

“Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22)

“Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.” (1 Peter 2:18)

“But there is hope. Jesus came and lived a perfect life and has done what I am incapable of doing. Jesus pleased the Father in every way whereas I have sinned and not given God the glory due Him. God is just and demands holiness. Jesus stands in my place and bore the wrath that I deserved on the cross.”

Says awilkes in a thorough exposition of just how fecking moronic “christianity” is.

What kind of idiot believes that a supreme, universe-expanding being gets psychotically angry at humans who don’t live “perfect” lives devoted to exalting “him”? Seriously, in a Universe of 70 sextillion stars, people think there’s this “god” who takes the credit for all that is “good” and avoids all responsibility whatsoever for anything that is “evil”. How stupid. How most of the population of the earth manages to go along with this crap escapes me entirely.

Religion: come for the promise of a free afterlife; stay for the chance to piss on people who are different from you…

The christian “god” is an absolutely terrible supreme being. He takes no responsibility whatsoever for anything bad that happens, even though he generally is the only one with any power to fix things. Everything is the fault of subordinates. If your boss or your father acted the way the christian “god” supposedly acts, you’d rightly think they were complete assholes.

“Yes children, billions upon billions of people will BURN ETERNALLY in HELL solely because they don’t have the same religion as you.”

Christianity. Seriously messed up.

I just came across this gem of a comment on Wintery Knight’s blog:
I have more to say on this, but you get the last word. (That’s the commenting policy of this blog, to give challengers the advantage)…
He didn’t give me the last word. He edited my words to change their meaning, with no indication that he had done so. When I complained he deleted my complaints.
I guess I must have said something he just couldn’t answer.
Wintery Knight is a liar.

It’s too bad she didn’t mention anything about going to hell, that’s my favorite move, I find it hilarious.
