The amount the U.S. military spends annually on air conditioning in Iraq and Afghanistan: $20.2 billion.

That’s more than NASA’s budget. It’s more than BP has paid so far for damage during the Gulf oil spill. It’s what the G-8 has pledged to help foster new democracies in Egypt and Tunisia.

Sarah Palin doubles down on her bizarro mangling of the Paul Revere story.

Here is the “shout out, gotcha type of question” which so confused the former Vice-Presidential candidate:

“What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

Meanwhile an apparent supporter of Ms Palin has been trying to edit the Wikipedia entry on Paul Revere to give her support to her account. His source for the accuracy of Ms Palin’s claims? Why, Ms Palin herself:

Sarah Palin is a former governor of Alaska as well as a presidential candidate [sic] of one of the two national parties in the United States. Her account of Paul Revere’s famous ride has achieved national attention from most mainstream media — LA Times, CNN, you name it. There are numerous reliable sources quoted her exact words on this subject…

This is beyond ignorant. This is beyond stupid. This is insane.

This is normal for Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin is dumber than a box of rocks. She still has the rubes fooled tho. This, from a Youtube comment:

Hey, libtards - Just because Sarah is smarter than you, better looking than you, more dedicated to America than you, and going to Heaven while you are going to Hell, doesn’t mean you should hate her. You should try to be more like her.

Intrade gives a 41.9% chance of Sarah Palin formally announcing a run for President before midnight ET on 31 Dec 2011. God help America…

Four Muslim men who assaulted a religious education teacher because they did not approve of him teaching Muslim girls, have been jailed… The gang left [the teacher]… unconscious after attacking him with a metal rod and a brick… The four all pleaded guilty to GBH with intent and given an indeterminate jail sentence with a minimum of five years. [One of the accused]… was also recorded as saying he did not care if he had to go to prison over the attack as he was doing it for the sake of Allah.

The Guardian’s Charlie Brooker describes how television news works :/

“…I’ve gotten a little fed up with the drive-by attacks on Fox News as of late…”

Says Stillersfan

Um… it’s ALL biased. According to a Harvard media study conducted in 2007, FNC is actually the least biased out of any news outlet… The Harvard study was focused on hard news coverage, what you will find on FNC from 9 AM until 5 PM. And again from 6 PM until 8 PM. I think it’s pretty clear that Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity are opinion shows… Fox & Friends is entertainment/news, but the anchors (at least Doocey and Carlson) tend to input their own feelings a little too much for me.

The problem is that Fox’s “Fair & Balanced” slogan is used all the time in promos referring to its opinion programming - and also by Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly et al. referring to themselves. It turns the slogan into a joke.

The real reason why they can’t stand FNC is because they actually give conservatives a voice.

No, it’s because they don’t give “liburals” anything like a fair voice in its most watched, most plugged, most valuable programming.

…Last time I checked, no matter who is in office, this is still America. Wasn’t it one’s civic duty to dissent from the government and ask questions during the Bush administration?

If Fox News’s opinion programming hadn’t questioned the patriotism of anyone who criticized the Bush administration, I’d take your rant more seriously.

Anyway, I think people can decide for themselves which news outlet they prefer. According to the ratings, they already have.

A point well made… But that doesn’t make Fox “fair and balanced”. Yes, it’s hard news coverage can be excellent, and there are voices such as Shep Smith who do take their responsibilities as journalists seriously… But much of the rest is just blow-hard grandstanding.
